Aided Deforestation
The process of bringing a director’s vision to life sometimes involves surprising decisions, such as the controlled burning of a significant portion of a forest, as seen in the opening scene of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. The question arises – how could a director gain approval for such an endeavor?
In this case, Scott obtained permission from the US Forestry Commission, who were planning to remove that part of the forest anyway. It became a collaborative effort, as the Commission allowed the controlled burning, resulting in the creation of the iconic scene that has since become a hallmark of the film.
