Motion Capture Magic at Work

Creating convincing humanoid characters through CGI alone can be a challenging task. The subtleties of human movement are challenging to replicate digitally, often leading to an unsettling effect known as the uncanny valley. This is where motion capture suits prove invaluable.

They enable the creation of CGI characters that move with the fluidity and realism of actual humans. As demonstrated by Andy Serkis in this behind-the-scenes shot from Lord of the Rings, the movements may not always resemble those of everyday people, but they are entirely achievable by a human performer.
