When Schmidt tried her hand at hurdling for the first time in a championship in 2018, the outcome was not as expected. She competed in the 400-meter hurdles and finished in fifth place.
Even though she landed in fifth place, this was a significant achievement given her young age. Schmidt expressed her satisfaction with the result in an interview with the German magazine Loox, stating, “I am very happy with the result.” She understood that this achievement marked just the beginning of her journey, and she would only improve with time.
