Throwing Apples as a Declaration of Love

Ancient Greece had a charming (albeit mildly aggressive, depending on your perspective) way of proposing to a loved one. The Greeks used to throw apples to express their romantic intentions.

In some instances, these airborne apples stirred up disputes. Apples were even hurled at married couples to bestow wishes of lifelong prosperity. On an unrelated note, Isaac Newton was famously hit by an apple before he formulated the laws of relativity. Just saying!
