Challenges with Substance Abuse
While the Amish generally comply with the law, exceptions exist within any community. In 1999, two Amish men were arrested for involvement in a substance ring, primarily concentrated in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. These individuals sold illegal substances, including to Amish youth, causing concern within their communities.
Despite these isolated incidents, it’s important to remember that they do not represent the entire Amish community, which, as a whole, strives to maintain a law-abiding and peaceful way of life.
