Kiwis:
With their green or golden flesh, Kiwis may appear to be regular fruits, but their origin story is anything but ordinary. These vibrant and tangy delights begin life as flowers before transforming into the sweet, succulent food we all know and love. Their growth pattern makes kiwis even more interesting, which differentiates them from conventional fruits.
Surprisingly, kiwis aren’t technically fruits but are classified as berries due to the way they grow and develop. Their journey to becoming a popular fruit in the Western world is equally fascinating. Initially known as “Chinese Gooseberries,” they gained international recognition during World War II. So beloved were they that, after the war concluded, kiwis became a regular export to California, where they continued to delight palates.
