Not Washing Fruits Before Eating
Many people need to realize the importance of washing fruits before eating them. Fruits can be contaminated with harmful bacteria such as E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria, which can cause foodborne illnesses. These bacteria can be present on the surface of the fruit due to exposure to soil, water, and other environmental factors.
To minimize the risk of illness, it’s recommended to wash fruits thoroughly under running water before consuming them. Even fruits with thick skin, such as melons or oranges, should be washed first to avoid transferring surface contaminants onto the flesh. In addition to washing, handling fruits properly during preparation is essential. Cutting fruits on a clean cutting board with a clean knife can prevent the transfer of bacteria from other surfaces.
