Sandy’s First Encounter with a Chimpanzee

Sandy Herold, born in 1983 in Connecticut, had a childhood immersed in the bustling bakery business of her parents in downtown Stamford. Growing up in their home on Rock Rimmon, she enjoyed the company of her dog and the horses they owned. After a brief first marriage, she remarried in 1960 and found happiness with her second husband, who lovingly embraced her daughter as his own.

By 30, Sandy married Jerry Herold, a compassionate and intelligent man. Together, they settled in Rock Rimmon, where Jerry established several successful businesses in Stamford, leading to financial prosperity. Their family’s passion for horse racing and rodeos allowed them to meet Charla Nash, a friend who would play a significant role in their lives. During a rodeo event, Sandy and Charla encountered a chimpanzee participating, piquing Sandy’s curiosity and prompting her to meet the chimp backstage, offering him gummy bears as a friendly gesture.
