Four Years of Silence
There was no way for Elisabeth to tell how much time had passed while she was locked inside the basement prison in the dark. With no information about what was going on in the outside world, she truly had no idea if or when she would ever be freed from the basement.
She didn’t know if her family was trying to find her or was wondering about what had happened to her. Elisabeth spent the first four years of her capture this way, entirely alone, with only her thoughts as company, as Josef hardly ever spoke to her.
