The inner workings of government agencies are often shrouded in mystery, and for a good reason. With sensitive information and findings that need to be protected, these agencies must take careful measures in how they share information. However, with the advent of the internet, these measures have become even more important. Despite this, it may come as a surprise that the FBI was slow to adopt technology in its operations.
As recently as 2012, FBI agents were still filing and logging documents by hand, without the use of computer software. While there is logic behind this slow adoption of technology, it is hard to imagine the effort required to upload years’ worth of manual records into a digital system. This is just one example of the unexpected realities behind the FBI’s operations.
