Stranger Often Equals “Danger”!

It’s amusing that after half a decade of living in Paris, this aspect continues to bother her, but it undeniably does. The skeptical and brusque demeanor of many Parisian shopkeepers or servers can range from mildly off-putting to outright insulting. She doesn’t anticipate a giant, American-style smile from them anymore, nor does she necessarily expect it. After all, ordering a hamburger doesn’t need to be a thrilling experience.

However, what she doesn’t appreciate is the occasional icy glare or the expression that seems to question her very presence when all she’s trying to do is purchase a pair of pants or enjoy a hot chocolate. Even a forced smile can significantly brighten someone’s day and turn a simple transaction into a pleasant one. While the level of friendliness in Paris is gradually improving, the city’s overall welcoming atmosphere still falls short, at least in her opinion.
