Iceland Isn’t Icy
Despite its name, Iceland’s icy surfaces make up only a small portion, around 10 percent, of the country’s land. Iceland’s winters are relatively mild, thanks to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream flows to the south and west of Iceland from the distant Caribbean islands.
In Iceland, the weather can change rapidly, as the popular joke goes. If it doesn’t satisfy you, just wait for five minutes. The country also encounters frequent storms, strong winds, and rainfall.
