Hemingway Dead!
By all rights, he probably shouldn’t have survived the plane crashes, and according to a local newspaper, he didn’t. A headline proclaimed him dead before he even got to Entebbe, so imagine the world’s surprise when he came back from the dead!
Because of these two brushes with Death, Hemingway had the opportunity to read his obituary. Although never used, his suggested epitaph was “Pardon me for not getting up.” A few days later, he was also injured in a brush fire!
