#37: Crazy Grandmas
We often picture our grandmothers as sweet and docile women. However, the reality is that they too had their fair share of wild adventures in their youth. In one such instance, this individual’s grandmother made the bold decision to get married at the tender age of 15, going so far as to break the law to do so.
Grandma and her beau eloped, with her being too young to legally wed. To circumvent this, they journeyed to the next county, where she could lie about her age and obtain a marriage license. Such an action would be significantly more challenging to execute in modern times, given the stricter laws and regulations surrounding marriage. Nevertheless, it is a testament to the grandmother’s unwavering spirit and determination that she took such a bold step at such a young age, and her story serves as a reminder that our elders were once young, reckless, and full of adventure, just like us.
