#39: Double-Up
Double dates can be a mixed bag of emotions – it can either be a delightful experience or a complete disaster. The success of a double date primarily depends on whether all parties are familiar with each other and if both couples share a great rapport. Interestingly, the grandparents of this person’s family met on a double date, although they weren’t initially each other’s dates. During the middle of a movie, their grandfather suggested swapping dates so that he could start dating the girl who would later become his wife.
Although the notion of swapping dates may seem unconventional, the grandfather did not do it because he found the future grandmother stunning or captivating. Instead, he was tired of the two girls continually leaving to the bathroom to indulge in gossip, and he believed that switching partners would put a stop to it. His instincts proved right, and the rest, as they say, is history. While the story may not be a conventional “sweep-me-off-my-feet” romantic tale, it still highlights the unpredictability of life and how love can come in the most unusual ways.
