Stomach Tracheostomy
Out of all the strange beliefs about pregnancy, this one at least makes a little more sense. It’s understandable how someone would assume that a fetus needed air, given that belly buttons are associated with birth. However, this misconception highlights the need for better education and awareness surrounding pregnancy and reproductive health. There are still many people confused about how babies “breathe,” and it’s crucial to promote better understanding of the biological processes involved in pregnancy.
To clear up this misconception, it’s essential to understand how babies get oxygen. Babies receive oxygen through the blood that pumps from the mother into the placenta. The oxygen-rich blood then travels through the umbilical cord attached to the baby’s belly button before circulating throughout their little bodies. The lungs are not used to get oxygen until the baby is born and takes their first breath. By promoting better understanding and awareness of reproductive health, we can eliminate harmful beliefs and promote a more informed and inclusive society.
