A Best Friend’s Ear
Emma couldn’t keep her thoughts bottled up any longer. The next day, she met her best friend, Jennifer, and poured her heart out. She told her everything—about the lipstick-stained shirt, the doubts that were slowly eating away at her, and her fear that something was going terribly wrong in her marriage. Emma hoped for comfort, but Jennifer offered something more unexpected.
Jennifer urged her to trust her instincts and not to brush off the signals that her heart was trying to send. She was firm in her belief that Emma shouldn’t wait for more signs to appear. Then, Jennifer took out a small business card and handed it to Emma. It belonged to a private detective—a man who had once helped her aunt catch a cheating husband. Emma was stunned by the suggestion, unsure if it was brilliance or madness. She wasn’t ready to decide just yet.
