Winifred Kathleen Cherry
Winifred Kathleen Cherry, a 24-year-old nurse who had come to serve at the Glamorgan County Lunatic Asylum, became a familiar face in Wales. Tragically, an encounter with a patient left her face scarred and burned, driving her to attempt suicide by leaping from a window. Her desperate act resulted in broken ankles, and she found herself as a patient within the mental hospital she had once served.
With permanent facial scars and a haunting vacancy in her eyes, this former nurse-turned-patient spent her remaining days in the asylum, swaying back and forth, endlessly muttering the words, “I didn’t do it on purpose.”
