Ancient Aliens
Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, a Swiss-born writer, ufologist, television presenter, and producer, is the subject of one of the internet’s favorite conspiracy-based memes. Tsoukalos is a well-known believer in aliens, and his appearance on the TV show Ancient Aliens is what sparked the viral image that features him with the caption, “I’m not saying it was aliens, but it was aliens.”
Despite the humorous nature of the meme, Tsoukalos takes his beliefs seriously and is a proponent of pseudoarchaeological ideas that claim ancient alien astronauts interacted with early humans. He has stated that he considers it an enormous privilege to have been embraced by the internet and recognized around the world. While Tsoukalos may not have intended to become a meme, his image has become a cultural touchstone for the ongoing fascination with aliens and extraterrestrial life.
