The Dingo Fence
In response to the growing issue of dingoes becoming a nuisance, the Australian government initiated the construction of the Dingo Fence in southern Australia during the 1920s. This extensive fence, which was completed in 1946, remains intact today. Its primary objective is to confine dingoes within specific areas and prevent their intrusion into human-populated lands.
Landowners whose properties are adjacent to the fence take on the responsibility of maintaining it and receive grants from the government to support these efforts. The fence’s primary purpose is to create a barrier that keeps dingoes to the north, safeguarding the farmlands and settlements in the southern regions of Australia.
