A Reminder of Women’s Pregnancy Experience
This pregnancy reveal may have missed the mark, as the couple announced their pregnancy during dinner with loved ones. While this may seem like a good time to share the news, it can also be an awkward moment, especially if the announcement ruins the mood. However, the bigger issue with this reveal was the husband’s use of “we” when referring to the pregnancy.
The wife is the one who is pregnant, and it is her body that is undergoing significant changes. Referring to the pregnancy as “we” disregards the wife’s experience and the physical and emotional toll that it takes on her. The husband will never truly understand what it feels like to carry 15 kilos inside of him, and it’s important to acknowledge and appreciate the unique experience that women go through during pregnancy. While the husband may be excited about the pregnancy, it’s important to be mindful of the language used when referring to it and to give credit where credit is due.
