#17: Maybe We Really Do Sit Too Much

Most of us already know we sit far more than we should — whether it’s at an office chair, a classroom desk, or planted on the couch with a laptop. Hours can pass without us realizing just how long we’ve been sitting, and our bodies definitely don’t thank us for it.

Posture, weight, back pain — we know the risks, yet many of us still default to sitting all day. That’s why this little fact hits hard: standing for just 3–4 hours a day, five days a week, is said to equal the calorie burn of running ten marathons a year. Whether that number is perfectly accurate or not, it’s a reminder that even small daily habits add up. Maybe it’s time we give our chairs a break.
