Sofia Vergara attended a bilingual private school in Barranquilla, her hometown, but her time there wasn’t pleasant. Surprisingly, she faced teasing and mockery from her peers because of her body shape. Despite being considered too skinny by Colombian societal standards, she was ironically teased for being slender, as Colombian culture traditionally values curves and shapely figures over thinness.
Recalling her experience, the actress said, “I was ridiculously skinny. They called me ‘pasillo,’ which means toothpick in Spanish.” However, even when she later developed curves and a more typical frame, she still faced teasing for her body, illustrating the challenges and contradictions she encountered growing up.
