Hawaii Is the Sole US State Cultivating Coffee

Coffee enthusiasts from all over the world flock to the Hawaiian Islands to savor the delightful Kona Coffee. While you might associate Kona Coffee exclusively with the Big Island’s Kona region, it is also cultivated in other parts of the state.

Kona’s location on the leeward side, a term used in sailing for the side of an island less prone to hurricanes, is key to its coffee cultivation. The central volcano on each island influences the climate on both sides. Clouds gather around the peak, diverting rain and wind, leaving one end of the island lush while the other remains relatively dry.
