Pua Mao Hau Hele, or the Yellow Hibiscus

While hibiscus flowers are commonly seen throughout Hawaii, the state adopted them as its national flower in the 1920s. However, it wasn’t until 1988 that Hawaii officially designated the color of its national flower as yellow.

This is why you may come across older postcards from Hawaii featuring red hibiscus flowers. Hawaii’s choice of the yellow hibiscus as its national flower is celebrated for its vibrant beauty.
