Former Biggest Supplier of Pineapple
At a certain point in its history, Hawaii was the largest producer of canned pineapple globally. Approximately 75% of the world’s canned pineapple supply was estimated to originate from Hawaii, with production peaking in the 1980s.
However, due to the lower production costs in Asia, major pineapple producers like Dole and Del Monte eventually relocated their operations away from Hawaii. As a result, Hawaii’s share of the world’s canned pineapple supply has significantly decreased, accounting for only around 2% today.
