Hawaii’s Big Island boasts an astonishing ecological diversity, with its landscape encompassing a remarkable range of climate zones. According to Köppen’s climate classification, five major climate zones and 13 sub-zones exist. 

The Big Island encompasses four of the five major climate zones and eight sub-zones, making it one of the most ecologically diverse places globally, all within just 6,423 square miles.
