Mount Waialeale, located on the island of Kaua’i, is a volcanic peak and holds the title of the wettest place on Earth. The name “Waialeale” translates to “rippling water” in Hawaiian, a fitting name given its elevation of 5,148 feet and the astounding rainfall it receives.
On average, Mount Waialeale receives approximately 373 inches of rainfall per year. 1982, it recorded its highest annual rainfall, with an astonishing average of 683 inches.
