Many Sunscreens Are Banned in Hawaii

Hawaii doesn’t want you to sunburn either, but it’s determined to protect its fragile coral reefs. Two common sunscreen chemicals, oxybenzone and octinoxate, have been found to harm coral reefs, prompting Hawaii to take action.

This law went into effect in January 2021, leading tourists to stock up on sunscreen until the end of the previous year.
