Multiple Time Adjustments

Malaysia’s peninsular region holds the distinction of having undergone numerous local time adjustments throughout its history. Few countries have seen as many as eight-time adjustments.

The most recent time alteration occurred on January 1, 1982, when then-Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad decided that the entire country would synchronize with the time in Sabah and Sarawak. Before this, both islands were 30 minutes ahead of peninsular Malaysia.
