Ceremonial Dagger for Executions
In another intriguing aspect of Malaysian history, ceremonial daggers called “kris” were utilized for executions before the 19th century. The sultans of the Malay Peninsula ordered certain executions to be conducted with the kris, a ceremonial dagger.
During the execution, the condemned person would have a small piece of cotton placed on their shoulder to stem bleeding. The executioner would hold the Kris blade vertically and thrust it through the collarbone into the heart, resulting in nearly instantaneous death. The cotton wool remained as the blade was withdrawn, making this practice unique.
