In Malaysia, a “bomoh” is a shaman known for possessing healing abilities, protective magic, and expertise in medicinal herbs. Many kampong (village) sports teams seek the assistance of a bomoh to help them secure victory. The bomoh may perform rituals like blowing holy smoke over the team’s soccer boots or providing them with amulets.
In some cases, if the bomoh arrives at the field before the match, they might place a small charm near the goalposts. While this practice may seem unusual, it is also intriguing, and tourists often visit the bomoh’s tent to witness these unique traditions.
