The Malaysian Sunken Treasure: Flor de la Mar

Malaysia is home to a remarkable sunken treasure, the Flor de la Mar. This treasure lies at the bottom of Malaysia’s Strait of Melaka and has captured the fascination of many.

The Flor de la Mar was a Portuguese vessel captained by Admiral Alfonso de Albuquerque. It is believed to be one of the richest ships ever lost. In July of 1511, the ship capsized in a storm off the northeastern coast of Sumatra, along with all of its spoils acquired from Melaka over eight years. This sunken treasure remains a captivating piece of maritime history.
