Swimsuit Inspections – 1920s

At first glance, this vintage photograph may leave you scratching your head and wondering what on earth is happening. It’s a testament to society’s evolution over the past century.

The man pictured is measuring women’s swimsuits to ensure they are not too short, a practice unheard of in most parts of the world today. Yet, in the 1920s, such modesty checks were considered the norm, reflecting a very different set of values and standards.
