A Vibrant Crossing: Mexican Border, 1950

Even with a caption, it would take a short time to deduce that this lively photograph was taken in Mexico in the 1950s. With words like “Tequila” and “Adios Amigos” prominently displayed, the festive atmosphere hints at the land of the U.S.’s Spanish-speaking neighbors.

The vivid colors and flashy signs don’t reveal the exact location. Still, a closer look at one particular billboard bearing the words “come back again” in smaller print suggests that this bustling scene unfolded at the border.
